SPRING SUMMER 2024 "symmetry A symmetry"

THETHE held its first fashion show, titled "symmetry A symmetry."
The show depicted the gradual disintegration of clothing, expressing the concept of "formless things."
Just as life returns to the sea—its original home—clothing was portrayed as returning to fabric, the ocean of its origin.
The second piece used in the show was Beethoven’s "Ode to Joy."
Originally, the lyrics were from a German poet’s "Hymn to Freedom." However, due to political pressure at the time, it was altered to "Ode to Joy."
Beethoven, deeply moved upon hearing it, incorporated the lyrics into his symphony. At the time, adding lyrics to a symphony was considered taboo, sparking much controversy.
The sentiment that "words must be spoken to be understood" resonated with Beethoven, just as Ruru Tanaka seeks to communicate through clothing.
This choice of music, layered with this philosophy, expressed a stance toward modern society.
